For the first time, France tv distribution, the sales subsidiary of the France Télévisions group, will be taking part in the World Content Market. Michelle Palant, Sales Executive with France tv distribution, answers our questions.

You are going to the World Content Market for the first time. Could you briefly introduce France tv distribution?

As a subsidiary of France Télévisions, we mainly – but not exclusively – handle the group’s productions. We partner producers and rights holders and our job is to distribute their shows on all media. Our organization effectively manages very different types of business: the sale of television and film rights in France and internationally, the production of books and merchandising, and DVD and VOD publishing and distribution.

Our catalogue includes a wide range of quality content including major brands and all media genres.

What will you be presenting at the World Content Market?

Aside from working in a broad variety of business areas, France tv distribution is multi-genre. We aim to provide an exciting range of every type of content with a very ambitious catalogue.

Looking at our series collections, we recently launched Mother is Wrong and believe it has great international potential. The storyline is enthralling and the directing very ambitious. Produced by MFP for France 2, this new series (6×52’) is adapted from the bestseller by Michel Bussi, sold in Russia (Пока ты не спишь, «Фантом Пресс» 2016)  and 12 other countries. It will also be entered in the Series Mania international competition.

In terms of documentaries, we are launching the presales of Mysteries of the Giants produced by French Connection Films (6×52’) for France 4 and France 5. This edutainment series examines the evolutionary history of 8 giant prehistoric animals and how they evolved into their modern descendants.

Turning to animation, Little Brown Bear, produced by Bayard Jeunesse Animation (52×7’), returns in 3D, backed by the international success of the brand and 2D series. The new 3D graphics remain true to the soul of the cartoon series and preserve all the charm of its original world.

How do you think the World Content Market will benefit your sales strategy?

Our sales team covers the biggest fairs. We take part in all the major international trade events: MIPTV, MIPCOM, Sunny Side of the Doc, les Rendez-vous TV France International, the World Content Market, and so on. This year, we are delighted to be joining the World Content Market for the first time in Moscow. Our sales team’s aim at this kind of fair is to contribute to the deployment of our line-up content.

Our recent successes with Season 2 of Call My Agent (on Netflix), Captain Sharif, Rabbids Invasion and the documentary series Apocalypse have demonstrated our key role in increasing the influence of French drama, animation and documentaries internationally.
